Seven months, that’s how long it’s been since you and Snake decided to start your delightfully sneaky yet sweet relationship considering servants aren’t allowed to have them without their master’s permission. You wouldn’t have had a problem asking Ciel but Snake being his reserved self insists that no one needs to know about how well the two of you really get along. At first you felt bad about somewhat betraying your lord’s trust as well as feeling like the two of you weren’t even going to work out because when others are around both of you had to act like you were nothing more than acquaintances. It really hurt that you couldn’t openly show your affections for the lanky male that quietly stole your heart. However Snake made it very easy to forget all that quickly.

~Flashback to a week after the confessions~

You and Snake were in the garden looking for Wilde which you thought was unusual since the white haired man never loses his reptilian friends. The two of you do not split up during the search and instead it almost feels like a romantic stroll through the garden. Every now and again you glance over at your new lover having the surreal aura of it wash over you. Sometimes Snake would catch your glances and offer you a content smile as a small blush appears on his cheeks. Other times you would catch him glancing at you with such adoration you found it very hard to keep yourself from hugging him or giving him a soft kiss. It was especially hard since normally he has such a blank expression that he seems to care for nothing. At the time the two of you hadn’t even gotten to share your first kiss together since someone has always been around. However, the two of you remain acquaintances in the eyes of all that watch you even during the soothing stroll where you are searching for the amphibian. For a while the two of you search then Snake mentions that he has to go do something Sebastian told him to do earlier. Wishing you could have spent more time with him you sigh and continue to look when the missing scaly creature finds you instead with a note tied around the base of his head. A small gasp leaves your mouth at the random appearance but you take the note from him and read it.

(Name),

Please meet me in the library tomorrow afternoon, if you can. I had a nice time with you today.

    - Snake

~Back to present~

You are currently setting the dining room table for Lord Ciel’s dinner with his fiancée Elizabeth and her family. They had insisted upon coming over after hearing from Lady Elizabeth that Ciel spends most of his time at home with only his servants for company. In truth you had to admit that sometimes it can be lonely here but those days were your favorites because of one certain thing or should you say person.

~Flashback to two months into the relationship~

Today there were no guests, none expected and none showing up unannounced much to the relief of everyone in the household. Most likely though this had to do with the fact that Ciel and Sebastian are staying in the other smaller mansion while the young master attempts to solve yet another case as the Queen’s guard dog. Although you are social and talk to the other servants they don’t find it strange when you go off on your own because of your reading habit. Any time you take off they assume it’s to go read, some of the time that’s true, most of the time it’s not. You take off to go meet Snake at predetermined locations the majority of the time. Right now you are currently on your way to the lounge room that rarely seems to be occupied unless there are guests visiting. Entering the quiet space you take a seat on the sofa glancing about the area before pulling out one of your books to pass the time it’ll take Snake to arrive. Engrossed in the suspenseful chapter you fail to notice the white-haired male heading your direction until he appears beside you peering over your shoulder at the book.

“Wordsworth says that’s a good book,” Snakes soft voice perturbs the silence making you jolt a bit in surprise.

“You scared me!” you exclaim a little louder than he was holding a hand over your heart, “Don’t sneak up on me like that!”

“I’m sorry,” Snake apologizes frowning as he avoids eye contact.

“It’s all right, anyway Wordsworth is right about this book,” you reply smiling at him and laying the book on the coffee table.

Snake brings his gaze back to yours wondering if you really forgave him as well as why you put your book down if you were so absorbed in it. He’s about to suggest you continue when you pull him closer placing a kiss on his cheek that brings a pink hue to his pale face. Backing into the end on the couch he motions for you to come to him shyly looking at the floor. You smile happily moving beside him, at this his arms lightly drape themselves around your midsection pulling you flush against his boney frame. Hesitantly he brings one of his hands up to run it through your hair. He’s still not used to doing such affectionate things and his reserved nature only makes it harder for him to reach out. So whenever Snake asks something of you, you usually comply if you understand the nonverbal question. After a few minutes of relaxing like that Snake whispers in your ear,

“Is it okay if we stay like this for a while?”

The question is tentative revealing how new the concept really is to him, he mentioned once before that he has never had a lover until you showed up.

“Yes,” you whisper back rolling around to face him an expression of happiness shown on your features.

Snake’s eyes fill up with emotion replacing the normal blank stare hinting at how much he truly cares for you. Laying your head on his shoulder you close your eyes in relaxation putting an arm across his waist snuggling up to him. For a second his body tenses at the innocent actions only to release the tension when you speak once more,

“We can stay like this as long as you want, I won’t go anywhere.”

You eventually fall asleep due to the comfortable and warm position lulled by the soothing rise and fall of Snake’s calm breathing. The thin man relishes the moment continuing to play with your hair enjoying the warmth of you next to him driving out the cold of the rainy day. What makes it even more enjoyable is that it isn’t every day that he can hold you like this.

~End of flashback~

Finishing with the table Sebastian calls you to the kitchen to help bring dishes to the table while he gathers everyone for the meal. By the looks of the food Baldroy cooked nothing on the menu this evening which is normal considering the chef is only useful when it comes to keeping the mansion safe from intruders. He’s also a good guy but seriously a horrible cook. Picking up a few dishes in a balancing act you make your way out the door back to the dining room noticing Snake in the hallway coming your way. Offering him a smile you are about to walk past him when he stops you taking a few plates off your arms kissing your lips quickly then pulling away to walk with you to your destination. Not even thirty seconds later Finnian comes running through crying about the plants. Your heart rate picks up at the fact that the two of you were nearly caught by the gardener who would have certainly ruined your secret affair. This time is nothing compared to a few months back though.

~Month 4 of secret relationship~

You were cleaning in the foyer, the most used room in the entire mansion aside from Ciel’s office when Snake shows up. He looked around first only approaching you afterward seeing that the entrance is void of life besides the two of you and a few of Snake’s snakes. Giving him a short sweet kiss you back off knowing someone could come any moment,

“Don’t worry, my friends will tell us if someone is coming,” Snake comments gruffly staring luridly at you with half lidded eyes.

He doesn’t wait for a response from you and kisses you again portraying the impatience time has insisted upon the two of you after not being able to do anything but glance at each other for the past three weeks with all that has gone on. Longing shown in the harsher than normal pressure of his lips against yours, the way he backs you up to the wall next to the door softly, and how you pull him closer by lacing your arms around his neck tugging on some hair strands. One of his hands cups your cheek as he gently licks your bottom lip hoping he isn’t asking for too much but you easily comply allowing him to explore and play. In the middle of the sweet yet steamy kiss one of the snakes gives off a warning hiss that barely reaches the ears of either of you. Begrudgingly you start to pull back only to stop when Snake leans into you more using the wall to keep you from parting. It wasn’t until more urgent hissing sounded that Snake slowly pulls away a small smirk on his face at the flushed look on your. He backs off going to the door wiping his emotions clean off his face as your attempt to do the same. Not even five seconds later Mey-rin, Baldroy, and Finnian come in the room to line up, you swiftly make your way into the line as Snake swings the door open. Everyone says welcome home to the master as he and Sebastian walk into the mansion. Right now you’re struggling to not faint from the wonderful kiss and how close the two of your came to being caught yet at the same time it’s exhilarating having no one but the two of you know what just happened here seconds before.

~Flashback ended~

No matter how many times you recall that memory you will always blush for that was the first time the two of you shared an elongated kiss. Snake casts you a knowing glance allowing a smile to grace his handsome face caused by the fact that he thinks about the same thing every time there is a close call. Neither of you have taken that kind of risk following the event finding it hazardous to the well kept secret. Both of you have only gotten better at hiding the relationship although what surprises you the most is how the two of you have kept it from the all-knowing butler Sebastian. One day you swore he was testing the two of you.

The winter weather had brought with it a nasty chill but you had been tasked with shoveling the pathways around the mansion with Finnian. It wasn’t that bad of a task but after prolonged time spent in the freezing weather you had caught a cold much to your displeasure. Subsequently the next morning you wake up with a burning fever, your head feeling congested, and you limbs weighing down like lead. When you didn’t show up in the kitchen with the other servants Sebastian scowled thinking you were just oversleeping (it has happened a few times before) and telling the other servants to wait until he got you. He quietly raged on his way to your room ready to scold you and give you extra things to do that he knew you didn’t like. Knocking politely on the door first he hears you start to choke out a reply only to end up in a coughing fit. Opening the door he comes into your room to assess if you really are sick. Placing his gloved hand on your forehead he can clearly tell your temperature is higher than normal.

“I guess you have an excuse to stay asleep today,” the butler frowns at you only to have it turn into a mischievous smirk, “I’ll have Snake come take care of you.”

Your eyes widen ever so slightly hearing the name of your lover come from him while he’s wearing that look. Internally you start to panic a bit about whether he knows or not,

“N-no, that’s o-okay. Someone e-else will do,” you stutter hoarsely feeling a bit tongue tied.

“Oh? I thought you liked our quiet footman,” Sebastian teases smirking at you then taking his leave.

“Not really,” you respond with a wheezing sigh.

Minutes pass and next thing you know Snake appears in your doorway holding a tray with soup, a glass of water, and a cool cloth. Shutting the door behind him the mask falls away illuminating those yellow orbs of his with worry as a frown sketches itself into place. You start shifting to sit up only to wind up having Snake assist you once the tray safely sits on your nightstand.

“It’s j-just a cold Snake, I’ll g-get o-over it,” you manage to scratch out the reassuring words.

Snake continues worrying anyway handing you the glass of water then placing the cool cloth on your forehead. A sigh of relief slips from your lips at the sensation of calming your fever. Taking a few sips of water you hold it away,

“Could I have the soup?” you question softly before hunching over in another coughing fit that gives you a headache.

During the fit Snake took away the cup lightly rubbing circles on your back in a soothing manner that actually helped. Just as the male pulls away from you to grab the soup the raven-haired butler comes in earning a blank stare from the snakelike man and a tired one from you.

“Snake, once (Name) is done with the soup attend to your chores. Mey-rin will change the cloth on her forehead until lunchtime when you are to bring her second meal,” Sebastian informs him leaving just as quickly as he came.

Upon his exit Snake hands you the soup as Keats slithers out from his shirt wrapping around his left arm flickering his tongue. The worried male beside you gazes at the cold-blooded creature seeming to listen to him. Moments pass silently aside from the sound of you eating soup, finally speaking up Snake says,

“Keats hopes you to get better soon.”

Half-heartedly smiling at him you respond, “Thank you Keats but that’s the least of my worries. Snake, I think Sebastian might know about us.”

Your lover smiles at you shaking his head no at your thought seeming to know something you don’t. Confusion makes your eyebrows furrow and Snake kisses the top of your head.

“He thinks you don’t like me because we rarely interact in front of him,” Snake explains hoping to ease your worries.

“Oh, then why would he…he’s mad at me for getting sick,” you blanch feeling like you’re in a battle you can’t win working with that scary man as the head butler.

~Ending of the memory~

Snake had spent the majority of his time with you while you were sick being as discreet as possible with all of his visits. Thankfully you haven’t gotten sick since then but it was nice to spend so much time with him those couple of days. Dragging yourself out of your head you finish your task of bringing food to the table just in time for the Midford family to show up trailed by Lord Phantomhive and Sebastian. The butler silently dismisses you with a hand gesture. Back to the kitchen you go to help with washing dishes so no one ends up staying up all night. Entering the kitchen you hear the other servants talking about a trip,

“Are we all going somewhere?” you inquire rolling up your sleeves as you walk over to the sink.

“Mr. Sebastian told us earlier, he did, that we’re going to the other mansion with the Young Master because we might burn down the house,” Mey-rin tells you excitedly.

“You, Snake, and Tanaka are staying to take care of this mansion,” Baldroy chimes in sounding offended.

“I’m going to miss you (Name),” Finnian exclaims looking close to tears but that was to be expected as he is an emotional boy that you get along with fairly well.

“You’re not going to be gone for that long, are you?” you probe excited for the amount of freedom you and Snake will have while they’re gone yet feeling a little guilty at the fact that you are so happy about your friends leaving.

“We don’t know yet, we don’t,” Mey-rin replies helping you with the dishes.

“I’ll surely miss you all while you’re gone. It’s going to be so quiet here,” you absently comment not finding the words offensive.

“Oi what’s that supposed to mean?”Baldroy yells balling a fist.

Snake then walks into the room immediately looking at Baldroy, “Emily says you’re being too noisy for her to sleep.”

Normally the others find it creepy when Snake speaks for his snakes but this time we all laugh as Baldroy crosses his arms scowling indignantly.

~Time skip of annoying small bugs that attack your computer screen~

(Not a flashback, I just didn’t feel like typing in italics)

The following day Snake comes to find you in the morning seeming as though he has something on his mind. Putting down your dust rag you give him your full attention.

“We should tell Lord Ciel,” Snake states searching your eyes for an answer.

“Why?” you simply question wondering what suddenly changed.

“I love you and I know it hurts you to hide,” he admits appearing more nervous than any other time you’ve seen him.

“I love you too but I don’t think anyone has to know. Just like you told me seven months ago,” you smile lovingly at him.

Snake smiles back no longer looking nervous but happy, now he won’t have to share the details of his life with anyone other than you.

Well I spent a good part of today finishing this up, I wrote more than I expected to but oh well. I hope you all enjoy this Snake story there aren't enough out there.

I've read this before, and it's cute, but I have one little thing to mention. Wilde is a snake, snakes are reptiles, but you said "Searching for the amphibian". Not trying to criticize, just trying to help.
