A glance, it was just a small look but you could sense the darkness, the cold heart, see the innocence in his eyes that tried to look bored with the world. Each move measured, actions accounted for, and even every word that slipped from his lips was practiced in his head before anyone ever heard them. How can someone hold such control over themselves? The man’s blue eyes seem to gaze around you as though you’re invisible or just not good enough to be seen. He seems far too intent on finding whatever it is he’s tracking to pay much attention to his surroundings.  Another man follows him carrying a darker aura than the young man but he does not peak your interest. The hidden fire that courses through his being is quite obvious to you; however this is Lord Ciel Phantomhive you’re talking about, his secrets should stay hidden. You do not know Lord Phantomhive very well personally, although your family does work with him in the toy business and you’ve been around him for years. His fiancée Lady Elizabeth passed away a few years back and as far as anyone can tell he’s simply keeping his pain to himself. You would like to help him get rid of his pain and suffering yet he doesn’t seem like a very friendly person. To you though, it seems worth it to try.

Suddenly as if he sensed your thoughts Ciel looks directly into your eyes as he starts walking toward you,

“You’re (name) (lastname) if I’m not mistaken. Could you give a letter to your father for me?  He has been impossible to reach,” Ciel comments frowning as he holds out a letter as though you had already agreed to take it.

Behind him the butler wears an amused smirk at his master’s forwardness.

“I will only get him the letter if you agree to escort me home,” you negotiate matching the young master’s attitude and holding your hand out for the letter.

“What foolishness! I wouldn’t have written a letter if I was going to talk to him in person!” Ciel huffs crossing his arms as he glares.

“Very well, good day to you Lord Phantomhive,” you pleasantly say bowing to him then continuing on your way home thinking about how you were wrong about his level of control.

“Excuse me Mistress (lastname), I could take over your family’s company,” he responds coldly and you could almost see the smirk on his face even though his face is not visible to you.

“You are very childish my lord, how does anyone do business with you?” you question out loud not even pausing your steps.

“I am not, I just know how to do business,” his prideful retort sounds in your ears at a closer distance than before.

“Then your business must suffer from the rude and arrogant behavior you show,” you chide looking over your shoulder at him as you shrug in a careless manner.

“How dare you!” he remarks curling his fists while he marches after you.

“Tell me, what makes you so bitter to everyone that you must start a fight over something as simple as someone not doing as you ask?” the question rolls off your tongue before you can filter it although you were wondering.

There’s so much that you want to know about him, even though you aren’t exactly having a nice conversation right now. You are a bit surprised that his butler has not said a word about this. This interaction does spread some light on him; however, this is not the way you wanted to learn about the mysterious lord.

“I don’t have to explain myself to you,” he scoffs now walking in stride with you.

“True, would you mind telling me then why you need to contact my father so soon?” you probe wondering if he’ll calm down with a change of topic.

“My company is going to release a new toy and I need parts from his factory,” Ciel says sighing as though releasing all his tension, “Now will you please take this letter to him.”

“Of course, thank you for walking me home,” you smile kindly at him as you snatch the letter from his hand and walk in the gate that opens into your yard, “It was a pleasure to meet you in person.”

Ciel stands outside the gate staring at you in shock.

“Let’s play another game some time,” you playfully suggest smirking before shutting him and his butler out as you enter the mansion.

As you shut the door you can’t help but giggle in satisfaction and feel a little giddy over the fact that you just made Ciel do something he did not wish to. It’s such a rare occurrence aside from the Queen that he listens to anyone especially now that he’s nineteen and fully an adult. In a way you’re surprised that he isn’t married then again with his attitude it’s easy to see why someone wouldn’t want to be with him. The things a person can hear about him around town are not exactly nice, they talk about his big ego, his temper, how creepy the mansion is, and some darker things you don’t care to bring up. You want to know what he’s hiding, to be part of that little world he lives in. It has to be more interesting than the one you do where everything is routine and all events are planned. Just thinking about it makes you bored. You want excitement which is probably why you have taken such a liking to Ciel, you wonder if he would like to see you again. For all you know he could not ever return because you manipulated him in such a way that he usually manipulates others like your father. Your father never wanted to team up with the Funtom Company but Ciel managed to make him do exactly that.  He never told you what happened the afternoon he went to the Phantomhive manor just that the two companies were now business partners. For a couple of hours you read a book and write a little in your journal while you wait for your father to get home. It was just getting dark when your father finally turned up,

“I’m home!” (father’s name) yells as he walks in the door.

“There’s a letter for you from Mr. Phantomhive,” you respond first from your chair in the living room.

“Welcome home dear,” your mother says greeting him with a kiss, “I wonder what that boy wants with you now.”

“Thank you, love. Who knows what that boy is asking of me now,” he sighs taking the letter off the table near the door, “How did you come upon this (name)?”

“While I was out in town Ciel happened to recognize me and asked for me to get you that letter,” you tell him smiling a bit at today’s encounter.

“Now it’s Ciel? If I could guess I would say you might like this lad and you’re smiling, I haven’t seen that for a while,” he teases half-heartedly since he doesn’t like the idea.

“Darling, please tell us it’s not true, there are plenty of other men that have less dangerous lives,” your mother pleads thinking the Queen’s watchdog is too much for you.

“I do not and even if I did it’s not like he would ever return the feelings, not after Lady Elizabeth,” you mention the smile having faded from your face as you turn to go to your room.

Internally you sigh wishing that you weren’t right about what you just said or that would surely end any chance you have at an interesting life. For hours you lay on your bed thinking about Ciel until you fall asleep restlessly. In the morning you wake up with the sun because you forgot to close your blinds but that doesn’t matter one of the maids would have woken you up soon anyway. With a yawn you sit up slipping out of the warm covers to get dressed for the day. You pick out a nice dress to wear that highlights your eyes and will be light enough for the summer weather. Calling one of your maids to help you get dressed you feel as though time is going slowly as you repeat the same routine as yesterday. As you finish lacing the dress one of your other maids knocks on your door,

“Come in,” you call brushing through your hair by the mirror,

“Mistress (name), there’s a man here with a letter for you and he won’t give it to anyone else,” she informs you sounding very surprised.

“I wonder who that could be,” you reply partially speaking to yourself with a look of pure confusion on your features, “Tell him I’ll be down in a minute.”

Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs you notice that it’s Ciel’s butler standing in the foyer patiently waiting with an amused smirk. Putting on a polite smile you walk over to him,

“Good morning, I don’t believe I caught your name yesterday,” you greet going through the necessary pleasantries holding out your hand to him.

“My apologies, I am Sebastian Michaelis butler of the Phantomhives. My lord, Earl Phantomhive has asked me to give you an invitation to come to the manor for tea this afternoon,” he bows placing the letter in your hand.

“A pleasure to meet you Sebastian, you can tell Earl Phantomhive that I’d be happy to join him for tea,” you say reading over the invitation that read,

Dear Mistress (name) (last name),

I thought about what you said to me about playing another game and I’m not very patient. You may have beaten me in your trivial game but I’d like to see how you do at chess, please come join me for tea at your earliest convenience. This afternoon is preferable.

Signed,

Ciel Phantomhive

A smile finds its way on your features seeing that Ciel had written his own letter and that even through paper he can sound like himself. Giving thanks to Sebastian you dismissed him going back into your home to let your parents know that you will be out later today. Said parents were found in the dining room preparing to eat breakfast as usual.

“I’ll be going out later today, I have been invited for tea,” you tell them specifically not mentioning who invited you as you take your seat.

“That’s lovely darling, who are you going to see?” your mother inquires while placing a napkin on her lap.

“One of our family friends,” you respond in an unexcited tone picking out the foods you want, “I should be back before dinner.”

“Oh yes, please do be back before then we’re having guests over tonight,” you father chimes in pointing his fork at you as he pauses cutting his pancakes.

The rest of breakfast is quiet and afterwards everyone goes about doing their own things, you mainly wander the garden in the back until the sundial tells you that its noon. You don’t feel like changing into another outfit so you sit in the living room waiting for the carriage to arrive. Not long after you had come inside did a knock sound on the door to which you jumped up from your seat then immediately slowed down so as to not seem too eager. Opening the door you see Sebastian and call to a passing by maid to tell your parents you’re going out. Sebastian helps you into the carriage then sets off at a swift pace, even after meeting him for only brief periods of time something tells you that Sebastian isn’t what he seems. No butler can be as amazing as he’s made out to be. The trip to the Phantomhive manor is long although times flies as you think about what would happen if you beat Ciel at a game of chess or if he decides that he enjoys your company, he isn’t very tolerant of other people. Originally you thought that your house was big but seeing Ciel’s makes your house look average at best. All the flowers were arranged in such a pretty way that you almost didn’t want to stop looking but there’s a more pleasant experience waiting for you inside the manor. Just as that thought arrived the door opened and you were escorted by Sebastian into the mansion where a maid was waiting with Ciel himself.

“I’m glad you decided to join me Mistress (last name),” Ciel smiles at you in a way that looks more mischievous than sincere.

“Please call me (name), Mr. Phantomhive,” you tell him not really fond of formalities and wanting to get to the game of chess he mentioned.

“Then call me Ciel, let’s go up stairs to the board room,” he comments his visible eye lighting up a little from the usual dullness it holds.

“Very well, Ciel,” you happily say finding it cute that even at this age he’s still childish to a degree.

Sebastian follows the two of you silently which gives you a creepy feeling but you decide to ignore it since your host seems to trust him. You’re lead into a room with lots of windows where a chess board is already set up to be played. He must love this game you think to yourself. He pulls out a chair motioning for you to sit then goes to his,

“Sebastian go get us some tea,” the young master orders snappily.

“Yes, my Lord,” the butler responds sending him a look that is returned with an icy glare.

“Shall we begin?” you question deciding it’s better not to ask what that was about, one more secret you’ll have to find out about later.

“Yes, as the guest you can go first,” he allows with a lazy wave of his hand resting his head on the other while his elbow is propped on the table.

“Thank you,” you smile moving a pawn out, it’s a good thing you know how to play chess.

The two of you continue to converse over the earl gray tea Sebastian brought talking about strategies which lead to Ciel talking about being the Queen’s Watchdog. During the game he seemed more caught up in conversation with you than focusing on the game. Who knew the Earl could be so chatty but you were able to learn some of the things few others know, his butler attempted keep him quiet on some matter but Ciel just ordered him to leave until he was called upon. Once you start talking about the things that you do like helping manage the business with your father and then onto the hobbies you find interesting you win the chess game. Ciel had been so intent on listening to you that he barely broke eye contact to move his pieces across the board. You ended up taking his king with your queen. A look of shock plasters itself on the handsome man’s face before the childish anger sets in,

“I challenge you to a match,” he states trying to keep a calm composure placing all the pieces back where they belong, “Sebastian bring us more tea.”

“My apologies Master but Mistress (name) needs to return home and we have to go somewhere,” the butler replies cryptically obviously enjoying the fact that you get curious and can’t or won’t ask.

“Tsk fine,” Ciel scowls and crosses his arms not wanting to accept this.

“The carriage is ready outside,” he informs you and his master.

“If you have somewhere to be I can arrange to be picked up,” you add hoping to not be a burden even though you were invited over.

“No, we’re going the same way and what kind of host would I be if I didn’t return you home?” Ciel scoffs like it’s the simplest thing in the world.

“As you say, my lord,” you tease laughing a little and turning to follow Sebastian out the door.

“It’s been a long time,” Sebastian mutters mostly to himself but you heard it.

“A long time since what?” you ask the dark-haired man.

“Nothing,” he responds slyly glancing back at the young lord.

Without any more delay the three of you go to the carriage where you and Ciel ride inside and Sebastian drives. The trip goes quicker than you would have liked because now you have to say good-bye again and you were having such a nice time talking with Ciel even if he is kind of rude although that just goes to show he isn’t hiding who he is. The carriage pulls to a stop so you move to get out when Ciel stops you getting out first then taking your hand to help you get out which you smile at.

“I had fun today, thank you for inviting me over,” you tell him honestly all his stories were nice to hear.

“I’m not leaving yet,” Ciel tells you a grin forming as he then informs you, “This is where I needed to go. I’m glad you enjoyed our game of chess.”

“So you’re who my parents meant we were having dinner with! Then why didn’t you just wait until this evening to play chess with me?” you probe confused since he could have just played chess with you after the meal and talked business with your father.

“I told you I’m impatient,” he says allowing a small warm smile to show but only to you.

Both of you walk to the door Sebastian accompanying the two of you, as you open the door to the house inviting the men inside your parents show up.

“(Name) it appears you’re back just in time, glad to have you over Mr. Phantomhive and Sebastian, please come in,” your father greets ushering everyone into the living room.

“The food will be ready in a minute,” your mother mentions politely smiling then returning to the kitchen.

“No need to rush, take your time,” Ciel says nicely to her before directing his attention to your father.

Since you knew there was no need to be part of this conversation you head into the kitchen to help your mother cook, yes your servants could do this but your mother likes to cook herself. She made some fancy foods probably fitting to the taste of the higher class earl in the living room. The food is ready in a few minutes and the maids help carry everything out to the dining table, your mother leaves to get the men and you take a seat in your usual spot. Your father comes in first sitting at the head of the table, your mother sits next to you, and Ciel sits across from your mother and next to your father. The dinner is polite talking about what’s happening in the city streets just as the normal social dinner is. Tension seems a little obvious to you in the room and you wonder why that is. You keep the conversation going but your parents barely participate so it’s nearly just a conversation between you and Ciel. After dinner ends your father whispers something to Ciel, all these secrets are starting to bother you yet you didn’t have too long to think about it because your mother asks you to see the guest out. Lord Phantomhive orders his butler to get the carriage as the three of you walk to the foyer. In a moment the butler is gone and Ciel turns to you,

“Before you say anything can I ask what my father was telling you?” you inquire trying to keep the curtness out of your voice.

“I’ll tell you the secret for a price,” he smirks down at you moving some hair behind your ear.

“What’s the price?” you demand more than question starting to pout.

“A kiss,” he says softly holding your gaze with his hand still on your cheek.

You blush at the thought but you can’t say it’s something you don’t want to do so you nod bringing your lips to his in a sweet chaste kiss. Then Ciel gets down on one knee,

“I asked your father if I could marry you, (name) will you marry me?”

“Yes!” you exclaim and hug him tightly.

“Good, I don’t like being denied something I want,” he comments seriously then walks to the door.

“You’ll have to tell me more secrets,” you smile happily at him.

“As many as you like, my lady,” he answers kissing your cheek then walking out the door to his carriage.

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted some thing, I hope you enjoy this Ciel story that ends nothing like my last one did. This is the first part to my series since I decided I couldn't leave it on its own.

I don't own Kuroshitsuji

You now belong to Ciel
