I happily make my way to Yao’s house for a visit since I haven’t been around recently but that’s what happens when you hang out with troublemaking countries all the time. Knocking politely on the door of his home (my old home) I call out just in case he didn’t hear the knock. Within a minute the country that raised me opens the door,

“Aiyah! (Name) I’m so glad you’re here aru~” China yells hugging me tightly upon sight.

“I’m happy to see you too,” I respond hugging back pulling away a few seconds later, “Thank you for having me over.”

“Of course, aru” he responds leading me inside where a table is already set with tea.

“How have you been?” I question taking the seat he motions me to sit in.

“Very g—“ he starts to say when a loud obtrusive bang sounds on the door causing him to go wide-eyed, “(Name) you need to go hide now!”

He starts pushing me out of the room when whoever is outside loses their patience and comes into the house having kicked the door down. Instead of doing as Yao says I break away from him going to see who has the nerve to do this to his house. We may not have always seen eye to eye but that doesn’t mean I won’t be there when he needs me to be. Sliding to a halt on the wooden flooring I stand before a man that looks almost exactly like Yao.

“Ah, there you are Yao; you’re looking rather effeminate today. I took the liberty of letting myself in just in case you didn’t hear me knock,” the man snarls seeming disgusted at the fact that he has to be here.

“I’m not Yao, my name is (Chinese translation of name). What business do you have with him?” I demand crossing my arms just as Yao comes into the room behind me.

“What are you doing, aru?! I told you to go hide!” China whisper yells into my ear seething that I didn’t listen.

“No business now, you’re coming with me,” the brown haired man comes closer smirking at Yao’s anger and the defiance in my eyes.

“You won’t take her Zao, she’s a country just like us,” my friend gets in front of me looking scared for the first time I have ever seen.

Zao as I suppose is his name grins wider taking butcher knives out of his sleeves as men start to move in surrounding the three of us,

“Take care of him; I’ll be taking the girl with me to my car,” Zao orders holding a knife to Yao as he roughly grabs my arm which I follow without a fight.

“I’ll be fine Yao,” I encourage keeping my back to the Chinese nation knowing that if I looked at him I’d break down into tears, we both know how mafias are.

“I won’t let you take her!” Yao yells fighting off the other man’s men in an attempt to break.

“Stop it!” I hiss whipping around even though it twists my wrist in Zao’s tight grip to glare at Yao, “The more you struggle the worse it’ll be!”

I could feel the tears brimming my eyes but both my pride and the fire in my heart wouldn’t let them fall, from here I can only expect the worse yet if I can ensure that Yao isn’t harmed it’ll be fine.

“Zao, I’ll go peacefully if you leave Yao alone,” I mutter so that only the evil man beside me will hear.

He smiles a cruel smile, “I prefer you the way you are. You’ll make an excellent slave to my customers.”

The moment I start to struggle I find his butcher knife at my throat and my wrists chained together before a chloroform cloth is placed over my nose. I fell limp against my captor scared that when I wake up I’ll have been violated or tortured that is if I wake up again.

Zao’s POV

Yao wasn’t happy when I put the girl to sleep but now that she’s out of the way I can settle my debt with him. I leave the girl on the floor spinning my knives in my hands and just for fun I throw one near Yao’s feet,

“Since I’m taking her your debt is lowered, however if you ever try to take her back from me I will kill her and increase your debt. If you refuse to pay I will take away every precious thing in your life then I’ll come for you,” I explain frowning at the pathetic man before me.

Yao simply glares at me, eyes full of hatred while my men restrain him.

“You wretched being, this is entirely your fault for getting addicted to opium and using your country’s money to buy it from me. Now don’t test my patience, give me the amount we agreed upon,” I growl disgusted by how he mixes his normal life with his personal dealings although I am very much going to like having this female country as part of my collection, “Actually I think you own me more than that because you kept the beauty over there a secret from me and you know I don’t like secrets.”

Yao resigns himself and throws three coin purses on the floor between us then raises his eyes to mine looking like he’s about to speak so I kick him in the head and punch his gut. With that I snatch up the money as well as the girl leaving my lackeys to beat up my counterpart. What an interesting day so far I smirk then look down at the woman in my arms. Her (hair color) hair is in a traditional bun atop her head, her kimono is white with light blue flowers, the v-neck of it shows very little skin much to my displeasure and her face looks peaceful for someone in distress. An aura of innocence seems to flow from her, I glare at the unconscious woman there is nothing that can be pure and I will prove it. She’ll wish she never met me if she doesn’t already. Getting in the back seat of my limo I tell my driver to bring me back home, I can’t take her to my restaurant yet. Besides I have plans for her before then, her fiery personality needs to be broken before they can have her or else they’ll complain that they didn’t have a good time and not pay.

At my house a guard opens my door for me like always,

“Sir would you like me to carry her inside for you?” he asks seeming to admire her form in a perverted way.

“Can you move your ass out of my way before I decide to make you dog food!” I yell glaring at the man extremely irritated, how dare he look at her like that and think I’d let him touch her.

The guard immediately backpedals out of my way averting his gaze from anywhere near me like the coward he is but it’s nice to be feared. Entering my home I bring the girl to an empty room that has no windows, a mattress, and nothing else but a light on the ceiling. Once I lay her on the so called bed I leave locking the door behind me. Now to go sell some drugs and people while I run my restaurant. I smirk to myself thinking about what I’m going to do when I get home later. Putting on my cap I make my way to work by foot not wanting to take my car.

(Name)’s POV

Groggily I open my eyes to a pitch black room feeling a headache start from the chemicals I was forced to smell earlier. Where am I? Feeling what I’m on I realize it’s a bare mattress, my hands are still cuffed, at least I haven’t been raped. I’m sure that bastard who took me wanted me to be awake for such a thing yet then I wonder where he is. My stomach grumbles, I wonder what time it is. Feeling around in my sleeves I find that all my possessions have been taken from me although that’s to be expected. Putting my hands on my head I feel the needles I put in my hair still there and smile. I can work with this, whenever that bastard comes back I’ll make sure to put up a fight once I lower his guard around me. Hmm, maybe if I pretend to think he’s Yao then this will work out in my favor. With a sigh I try to glimpse the room yet with no light it cannot be accomplished so most likely the room has no windows, I’m probably on the only type of furniture in this room, so that means there is one door most likely locked. That’s when another idea reveals itself; I can try to pick the lock with the needles in my hair. Hopping off the bed I quietly rush to the door putting my lock picking skills to use when I hear someone coming down the hallway right before I would have had it. Wide-eyed I hurry back to the bed and lay down with the needles back in my hair. Seconds later the door opens allowing light to flood throughout the room. Taking that as the cue I flutter my eyes open rubbing one of them as I sit up,

“Yao I just had the strangest dream,” I mumble out in a sleepy voice softly yawning.

“About what?” comes the voice of Zao sounding amused by my little act walking into the room more.

“You were murdered,” I speak taking a shaky breath that I didn’t have to fake due to my nervousness.

“Come with me (Name), I’ll make you feel better,” Zao replies mischievously taking my hand in his after un-cuffing me to lead me out of the room.

I nod complying with him pretending to still be tired by leaning my head on his should causing him to tense up, I on the other hand feel sick wishing I had never gotten into this. Oh if only someone would come rescue me, I’m not sure I can get myself out of this alone, if I want to live. So far Zao is playing along with my charade or he actually believes it. So I test my luck a little asking why there are strange men in his house. He chuckles at me yet doesn’t answer pulling me closer to him for some reason as we pass them then we enter into another room where he shuts the door before flicking on the lights.

“You can drop the act now,” Zao orders more than says still holding me.

“What do you mean?” I question frowning up at him furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

“Stop it, neither of us is ignorant, at least I hope you aren’t,” he responds smirking down at me with lust filled eyes.

“Fine,” I hiss swiftly stabbing him with the needles in my hair and scrambling away fast enough to avoid being slapped.

“You little bitch,” he spits at me through clenched teeth.

“Do you really expect any different? You kidnapped me and said you’re going to sell me as a sex slave, I’d rather die,” I scoff holding onto my resolve like a life line poised in a fighting stance.

That’s when I see something I didn’t think I would ever see, Zao smiles a genuine smile at me seeming to forget that I just stabbed him in the shoulder.

“You’re right, I think I’ll keep you for myself,” he says walking over to the bed red eyes glowing out of amusement as he motions for me to come closer to him, “Come on, it’s either you sleep here or I send you out there with my guards. I doubt they’ll be this nice.”

I don’t doubt his threat and I’d rather not take my chances with his guards but I’m still unsure what I did to get on his good side then again he’s crazy. After careful consideration I start walking over to him holding the needles firmly but once I’m three feet away he motions for me to stop.

“Throw the needles on the floor,” he orders taking out his butcher knives placing them on the nightstand away from him.

I do as he says watching carefully thinking that his good graces can’t possibly last that long although for some reason I feel a completely different vibe off of him now. Almost all the threat I felt has dispersed making me wonder if this is a trick. He doesn’t seem like the type of man to play tricks though, more like he’s going to kill you or he’s not. Once both of us are weaponless he has me come towards him again. I climb onto the bed waiting for something to happen. Nothing. Curling up in a corner of the bed I watch his every move which he seems to enjoy.

“I’m going to change now; you can keep watching if you want but that means I get to watch you too,” he tells me in a sultry voice sending me a wink, “I will have you either way just not tonight.”

“Keep dreaming opium drug lord,” I quip turning my back on him closing my eyes so I can better hear in case he plans on drugging me, “I’m sure that Yao will come for me.”

“He won’t, I already told him what would happen besides you’re mine now. No one else can have you,” Zao comments chillingly rustling clothing as he changes.

I shiver in fear; I need to escape here soon. Maybe if I gain his trust I’ll find a way out. Suddenly a voice comes from beside me as arms slither their way around my waist,

“You know I can protect you better than he ever could,” Zao whispers sounding sincere keeping a light hold on me tensely like he expects me to shove him away screaming profanities.

I stay quiet balling myself up more to put more space between my captor and I as the lights go out. From what I can tell neither of us really slept last night thinking the other was going to do something harmful. The sun streams through the windows so I guess it’s around six in the morning, Zao had let go of me a while ago allowing me to relax a bit. Quietly I crawl out of his bed going to sit by the window looking out at the view and letting a small smile show on my face at being able to see such a sight. Little did I know, I was being watched admiring the nature outside. I started to hum softly to a song I once heard from America but I guess Zao didn’t like it.

“Be quiet, I don’t like noise in the morning,” he grumbles menacingly as we fall into silence.

I watch the rolling clouds for hours wearing a bittersweet smile trying to keep it together while I wish for a hero, yes nothing too bad has happened yet but he’s most likely biding his time so I won’t ever see it coming.

Three months later…

Yao never came for me and neither did anyone else although I’m not surprised about that, oddly enough Zao hasn’t done anything bad to me. Instead he takes me out to dinner, walks with me outside, shares all of his secrets, gets me things I like, and glares daggers at any man who dares look at me while we’re out. At the points where I feel homesick he hugs me close until I stop crying rubbing my back the entire time. We’ve surprisingly bonded over this time; he’s everything I wished Yao would have been for me. I can’t help feeling depressed that I find comfort in the stranger I should have been whisked away from by a would be hero. Tonight Zao and I are going to some dance a politician is holding in order to make sure his political influence hasn’t been tainted.

That night I wear a black Chinese dress covered with a red pattern paired with five inch black and red heels finished with ruby earrings and a silver necklace that has a metal spider holding the same gem hanging from it. As I look in the mirror Zao comes into the room wearing his suit asking what I think of it,

“It looks nice on you,” I offer barely holding a smile on my face as he kisses my cheek.

“I don’t know if I want to take you with me anymore,” he announces looking me over with a frown then smirks, “I’d rather keep your beauty to myself.”

“What use are treasures if you never show them off,” I chime hoping that none of my bitterness slipped into my words.

“You’re more than a treasure (Name),” he states seriously locking his eyes with mine most likely searching for any feeling at all.

“We should get going,” I say wrapping my hands around one of his arms.

He smiles nodding at me in agreement before we head out surrounded by guards the entire time. I can never tell if they’re to keep us from harm or to keep me from running, of course it could be both. When we reach the event I see someone who looks familiar, suddenly it clicks

“Yao!” I breathe out in surprise freezing in my place.

Having heard me Zao becomes tense snapping his head in the direction I’m looking in and I can literally feel the anger flow from the man beside me. Yao has his back to the two of us so he had no idea, if I just yell out maybe he’ll come get me. Said Chinese man turns around feeling our gazes, he immediately looks away heading somewhere else. I want to cry but can’t. How many times have I wished he would come get me and he failed every single time? Just as I’m about to pretend that I never saw him in order to keep myself sane someone rips me away from Zao. Hope sparks within me as I look to see who it was finding it to be someone I don’t know and try to break free from him grip,

“Zao!” I yell reaching from him only to be yanked farther away.

This can’t be happening, not again, I won’t be taken again. I fight against this person to no avail; it isn’t that I’m weak but that he’s stronger than me. He throws me into the back of a van clambering in right behind me slamming the doors shut and yelling at the driver to drive.

“Who sent you?” I demand taking the man’s gun and pointing it at him furious.

“Calm down, Yao sent us to get you,” the man says frantically backing away from me.

“You’re lying,” I hiss ready to pull the trigger because I know by now that Yao has no intention of coming for me.

“I swear to god lady, your name is (Name) right? Yao sent us to get you from that other guy!” the man continues to protest.

“Stop lying! I know Yao’s friends and their organizations you aren’t from any of them!” I growl finally pulling the trigger when I hear the driver swear and the van suddenly flips onto its side.

I grunt in pain hitting the side dropping the gun in the process. The metal screeches on asphalt no doubt creating sparks until it hits a hard object that it wraps around. Feeling somewhat hazy I drag myself to the back doors throwing the bottom one open to get out. Tearing off the heels I get up to run but all hope leaves me when cool metal is placed next to my head with a click. This must be the driver I muse wanting to laugh at all the things that have gone wrong today. The driver is talking into his phone about continuing on foot and being pursued by hostile forces.

“I’m really not worth it you know, Zao is going to kill you and everyone you work with for taking me away from him,” I say allowing all the bitterness I’ve held in to be released.

“Shut up bitch, did you honestly believe he cared at all about you? You’re just another girl he wants to sleep with,” he laughs at me cruelly.

“Then I guess I won’t have to wait for him to rescue me,” I wryly state hitting his head back, punching his stomach, and kneeing him in the face before breaking his arm that held the gun to my head then setting it back in place.

Ignoring his screaming I sprint down the road with his gun and cell phone in hand biting my lip against the pain of rocks digging into my feet. Not long into my running does a black SUV roll up, momentarily the thought of waiting to see who it is crosses my mind but I continue to run. Either whoever is in the car didn’t see me or they don’t care, from the other direction I hear about five cars pull up and doors slamming. Now I’m thankful that I was given a black dress and that its night time. Shouting echoes into the black sky, I hope they found the bastard who aimed a gun at me he’s going to need some help with that arm of his. Damn it all, I’m never going to get anywhere at this pace. There are some lights farther down the road so I’ll go there hoping for the best plus I can make a call to someone. It seems like hours have gone by since I left the crashed van, I never did find out what crashed us but I don’t really care. All this being away from home with people who are involved in illegal things has really tired me out. Finally I reach the lights that I saw which happens to simply be a sidewalk and much farther down isn a grocery store. I laugh at myself; of course I wouldn’t find refuge so soon, if only Zao were here. My eyes widen at the realization that I want him to be here. When did this happen? Oh who cares? I’m so done with everything; sitting on the edge of the sidewalk I call Zao’s cell phone, he picks up immediately,

“If you don’t know where (Name) is hang up before I find out who you are!” his angry voice comes through the line and I could only imagine what would happen to the poor soul that offends him right now.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know where I am,” I answer simply happy that he picked up his phone right now.

“(Name)! They haven’t done anything to you, have they?” he inquires with slight relief though I’m not sure why he’s so worried I’m just an item to him.

“I’m fine, the van that I was in crashed and now I’m on the sidewalk about a mile or so from it,” I tell him hoping he’s somewhere nearby, “Zao, are you going to come get me?”

“Don’t be an idiot, of course I’m coming to get you!” he yells into the phone adding a quick ‘stay there’ before he hangs up.

So there I sit waiting for the person who originally kidnapped me to pick me up after being kidnapped once more, I think about calling Yao but the thought quickly dismisses itself as anger rises in me. The man who practically raised me left me with a drug dealer/trafficker who is notorious for killing or harming anyone who makes him mad no matter what. I’m still not sure how I got on his good side but Zao ended up being better to me than Yao ever was. How much more messed up can this get? I’m not sure how much time has passed by the time I hear a car speeding down the road coming from civilization and burning tire as it stopped. Standing up on the cement quickly I back up wondering if Zao found me or if this is more of the guys from before that tried to take me away, no doubt they would truly torture me. The door to the back seat opens to reveal Zao himself, in all honesty I expected him to simply send his men to pick me up but I’m happy about it nonetheless. He gets out of the vehicle and I expect him to slap me or do something harmful like Yao would have and the rumors say of Zao but instead he pulls me into his embrace planting a kiss upon my lips. Butterflies explode in my stomach as a blush runs to my face flustered more than anything. That doesn’t stop me from returning his affection, it’s much better than the greeting I had expected. Partially breaking away I smile at Zao,

“Thank you,” I say quietly averting my eyes to the side.

“Shut up, I told you I would come so don’t thank me for it,” he barks but the look on his face betrays his tone, he’s just as happy as I am right now.

“I didn’t really expect you to come or care,” I admit a little ashamed for not believing in him, he’s never lied to me before.

“Wo ai ni, I’ll never abandon you like Yao did. We’re going home now,” Zao scowls leading me into the car placing me on his lap as he tells the driver to go.

The drive lasted about ten minutes before we pulled up to the house that I’ve called both a prison and a home for the past three months. For some reason none of the guards follow us inside but I don’t care much, once beyond the door’s threshold we head to the living room. It was nice not to have eyes constantly watching, that kind of thing tends to wear on your nerves after a while. Shockingly Zao starts to lead us in a slow dance and I laugh making him stop,

“What’s so funny?” he snaps glaring at me seeming unsure of himself for once in the time that I’ve known him.

“Nothing, it’s just out of character for you to do something like this,” I blurt smiling softly at him and meeting his gaze.

“Fine, I won’t do it,” he tells me sounding offended in the slightest starting to back away.

“No, no, I like it,” I quickly respond stepping closer to continue dancing, “And Zao…”

“Hmm?”

“I love you too,” I confess laying my head on his chest and he places his head on top of mine.

Maybe this life won’t be too bad with my captor turned savior.

Inspired by the song Waiting for Superman by Daughtry and just so you know the Reader developed stockholm syndrome which is when someone who is kidnapped becomes reliant on their kidnapper and even convinces themselves that they love the person who took them as a way of self preservation.
